Premiership football club Arsenal have teamed up with Stonewall, Paddy Power and Gay Football Supporters’ Network to help tackle (pun intended) homophobia in football. The #RainbowLaces campaign will see the lads sporting the laces as they play at home to Manchester City this Saturday, as well as feature in the advert (shown below) titled ‘The Changing Room’.
This is fantastic support from the top-level in football. As Arsenal already support diversity in football with their Arsenal For Everyone charity, this just goes to show that the team are dedicated to their values as a football club.
Arteta, Arsenal’s captain, told Arsenal.com: “We’re very happy to support the campaign and, while the advert is a light-hearted look at the things we can’t change, discrimination in football cannot be tolerated and we need to work together to change this.”
Each team has been sent the rainbow laces to wear this weekend, 13th-14th September to help stamp out homophobia within football. Keep your eyes peeled on BBC’s Match of the Day!
