Fresh off tour with 30 Seconds To Mars, Maja Smiejkowska caught up with Dan from You Me At Six…
You’ve just finished your tour with 30 Seconds To Mars. How did it go? Yeah, it was great. We went to the sights we had never played at before! So the fact that we got to travel to Portugal and areas of Italy where we haven’t been before, playing arenas with thousands and thousands of people, it was a great opportunity for our band and we had a lot of fun doing it.
Do you enjoy playing huge arenas and how do they compare to the smaller venues? It is different really. When you play a small venue you often think ‘oh I wish we were playing in arenas’, and sometimes after playing in arenas for a month you think it would be fun to go and do really small venues. The grass is always greener on the other side. They are just different experiences – small venues are really intimate, you can see everyone’s faces, you know exactly what everyone is doing. Arenas are more like a sea of people. There are great things about both of them. They are both awesome but different to do!
You’re off on tour with Paramore in the New Year over in Australia. Are you excited? We toured with Paramore a couple of times before so we know these guys pretty well. They are a lot of fun, amazing live, and we pick up a few tips, so that’s always good. We love going to Australia, it is our favourite place to visit in the world! There’s perfect weather and it seems like such a cool place every time we go there. It will be a great way to start the year.
Then you’re back for more dates in the UK. What’s your favourite thing about being on the road? We always have a lot of fun. It is nice to have a little break over Christmas, we have been touring a lot this year. It will be nice to have a few weeks at home, relax and see our friends and family. But by the time next year comes around, we will be all excited to meet up again. Having that car ride to the airport is always a lot of fun. We always put up little videos when we are away. It’s about having fun. It isn’t really like a job to us.
